[6BS] Indiana Hosts Fan Events
Hoosier Hoops On Kirkwood And Team Scrimmage Mark Unofficial Opening To Season
Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, and presented by our friends at Homefield Apparel, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.
IU’s basketball season is here unofficially. This was no more evident than the Hoosiers hosting fan events and media day.
Also, Inside the Hall continued its series previewing each Big Ten squad, and football prepares for Oregon during its bye week. As usual, we will conclude with weekly shows and a look at other IU sports, which was highlighted by volleyball pulling a massive upset.

Banner #1: Hoosiers Season Underway With Fan Events
A modification to Hoosier Hysteria marked the unofficial beginning of IU’s basketball season this week. Rather than a single night at Assembly Hall, the Hoosiers did two events in multiple locations over a couple of nights.
First on Thursday, Hoosier Hoops On Kirkwood provided the glitzy parts of Hoosier Hysterias of the past. The difference was that it was done outdoors on Kirkwood Avenue rather than in Indiana’s home arena.
The event as a whole was an attempt to reconnect fans in a new way, given the program’s recent turbulent times. The next night at Assembly Hall was the scrimmage, which was a much lower-profile affair than in the past. However, IU showed off its renewed emphasis on shooting three-pointers after fewer attempts in recent years.
Banner #2: IU Hosts Media Day
Before these fan events late in the week, IU hosted a media day and an open practice. Here, new Indiana coach Darian Devries spoke, as did multiple players, and women’s coach Teri Moren.
Inside the Hall was one of the multiple Hoosier media outlets on site. The site’s new student reporters, Nick Rodecap and Quinn Richards, were there, and the site provided observations from the happenings.
Banner #3: Inside The Hall’s Big Ten Team Preview
Inside the Hall continued its series previewing all the teams in the Big Ten. This week, Ohio State, UCLA, Illinois, Purdue, and Michigan were broken down.
Banner #4: Football On Bye As They Prepare For Oregon
While 6-Banner is a basketball-focused column, the success of IU football in 2024 has led to unprecedented excitement amongst the fan base and increased media coverage for the program. As a result, 6-Banner, Assembly Call, The Back Home Network, and Inside the Hall are providing more coverage of the Hoosier squad on the gridiron now.
After the slog against Iowa last week, to improve to 5-0, the Hoosiers moved into the top-10 and took the week off. Conference play continues next Saturday with a blockbuster. The Hoosiers will play their second road game of 2025 when they head to elite Oregon at 3:30 pm on CBS.

The item of the week for this week is the new “Hurryin’ Hoosiers” snapback hat. Both
Jerod Morris and Tony Adragna have it, and can attest to its quality and fit.
Plus, how cool is it to have an item celebrating the great teams under Branch McCracken?
Banner #5: Weekly Shows
Inside the Hall’s Podcast On The Brink returned this week. On it, ITH’s Richards was joined by Alex Bozich to discuss the media and fan events.
The Back Home Network was on air many times this week as new shows have been added recently. Big Red Carpet, CrimsonCASH, Dribble Drive, Right Up Meridian, Football Weather, and Xs and Joes all had episodes over the last few days.

Banner #6: Hoosier Roundup-Volleyball Upsets Elite USC To Remain Undefeated In Conference Play
Volleyball remained undefeated with a massive upset at USC to stay on track to end its 16-year NCAA Tourney drought. Their game at UCLA ended too late on Saturday night for results to be published in this week’s 6-Banner.
Men’s soccer fell to Washington.
Men’s golf competed at the Windon Memorial Classic.
Cross country took part in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational
Baseball hosted its first fall scrimmage. Also, several former Hoosiers are in MLB’s postseason.
Wrestling announced its upcoming schedule for this winter.
Swimming and diving had five of its athletes honored by the Big Ten.
