Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, and presented by our friends at Homefield Apparel, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.
If games ended with 25 seconds left or IU was playing horseshoes, they would have had two victories this week. However, with neither of these things being the case, the Hoosiers suffered two late defeats after collapsing in the final seconds.
Besides this, readers will find information about women’s basketball getting a critical victory, an honor for a former Indiana player, and weekly shows. As usual, we will conclude with a look at other IU sports led by water polo’s undefeated start.

Banner #1: Hoosiers Lose Late Lead To Maryland
When it looked like IU would get their biggest win of the season, everything went wrong late. Anthony Leal made two critical and-one plays to give the Hoosiers a four-point lead with 38 seconds left.
However, from there, Indiana failed to execute and close the game out allowing an easy score, missing the front end of a one-and-one, giving up an open three-pointer to fall behind, and then getting a terrible shot on their last possession after substitutions and confusion. In the end, the Terps celebrated as they had stolen a 79-78 win in Assembly Hall.
Afterward, IU coach Mike Woodson spoke, Inside the Hall had a photo gallery, Ryan Corazza wrote a Minute After and Film Session, Alex Bozich put together Five Takeaways, and Will Foley penned a column about the failures with late-game execution.
Banner #2: IU Falls To Arch-Rival Purdue After Being Ahead In Final Seconds Again
Just like against Maryland, IU played very well against a great team for the entire night until there were less than 30 seconds left. The Hoosiers and Boilers traded leads all night in Mackey Arena with Trey Galloway making a floater to give Indiana a 76-75 lead with 29 seconds left.
Once again, everything fell apart from there as Trey Kaufman-Renn hit a midrange shot with 11 seconds left to give Purdue the lead back. With a chance to win, Myles Rice took an off-balance jumper after being held scoreless all night that was an airball. Forced to foul, the Boilermakers hit both free throws and IU had the subsequent long inbounds pass intercepted needing a game-tying three-pointer. Purdue sealed up an 81-76 triumph at the line after this.
Afterward, Woodson spoke, Corazza wrote a Minute After, Bozich put together Five Takeaways, and Kevin Vera penned a column about the late-game mistakes.
Instead of two critical victories to get on the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble, Indiana now sits at 14-8 overall and 5-6 in the league and further out of the March Madness picture. This is despite having one of the better rosters in the conference as they fall down the Big Ten rankings.
It does not get any easier on Tuesday when the Hoosiers head to ranked Wisconsin at 9 pm on Peacock. IU has not won at the Kohl Center since 1998.
Banner #3: Women Get Massive Win Over Washington
Unlike their male counterparts, the women showed how to close out a nail-biter in the final seconds and in doing so picked up a critical win on the road at Washington. Tied at 68 with 85 seconds left, Sydney Parrish hit a three-pointer to give the Hoosiers the lead for good. Yarden Garzon who had a career night with 35 points, also hit a late jumper to help seal the victory and IU forced a tough and well-defended three-pointer at the buzzer that was off to hold on 73-70.
Indiana sits at 13-7 overall and 5-4 in the league and has a critical showdown with an evenly matched Nebraska squad at noon today on FS1 in Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers currently sit on the right side of the NCAA bubble as a projected nine-seed.
Banner #4: Trayce Jackson-Davis Selected To Rising Stars Team At NBA All-Star Weekend
The NBA All-Star weekend is coming up soon in San Francisco and former Hoosier Trayce Jackson-Davis will be a part of it. The one-time Indiana star was named to the Rising Stars event in his sophomore season in the NBA by averaging 8.2 points and 6.4 rebounds during the 2024-2025 campaign for the Golden State Warriors.
