Indiana's rebuilt roster will enter next season with more proven individual scoring ability than any IU team in recent memory. How much does that matter? Jerod digs into the numbers.
Jerod, my take away from this interesting data-driven analysis is that it represents a return to your natural optimism. Last year's discouraging season seemed to get you down in the dumps. It's great to see you excited about IU basketball again.
It definitely did. It felt like we were traveling down a dead-end road there for a bit. The end-of-season run and the work the staff has done this offseason has provided a lot of objective evidence that the program could be due for a much-needed bounceback.
Defense gets you the ball and an opportunity to score. Look at that 2nd half defensive @ss whooping UConn gave Purdue. Yikes. Love to see us defend like that.
That's an analysis which gives me hope. The one category which concerns me is giving up the long two's and increasing the 3's significantly. If Woody does this, I see a HUGE season.
Absolutely. There are so many little areas around the margins where we can improve our offensively efficiency. If we add all this talent AND do that ... there is a really high ceiling for this team offensively.
I’m not as concerned about the volume of 3’s as much as the percentage of open 3’s made. The team’s strength will still be scoring in the paint. But with better penetrating guards and wing play I hope that comes from breaking down defenses with vastly improved movement of ball and personnel.

Defense can keep you close, but you have to score points to win. Your analysis gives me hope and anticipation for next year.

I just knew you were gonna say to be optimistic because of we 'true' fans. And here you go and fill the space with numbers and stats. Bah! 😁

Thanks, Jerod. I hadn’t thought about career single-game scoring high as an indicator, but it makes a ton of sense. Fun to think about, for certain!
Very interesting analysis, Jerod. Sure gives us some hope for ‘24-‘25! I’m hopeful that we can shoot more 3s and hit at a 35% clip!
