Throughout the video IU looks flat footed and disinterested in really competing on defense. When you play against a guy like this, you have to make decisions unless you can deal with his height and strength with one player, which hardly anyone can in the NCAA. Where was the ball pressure on the inside passes? Unfocused. Was consideration given to fronting Edey with a strong help. If you front and they go over the top you have to have someone there while the ball is in the air to cause him trouble. If they skip it, you just do your best to get to the three.

Based on what I see on this film, the score was Painter 100, Woodson 0. If I'm not mistaken IU had won 3 straight in the series. The Purdue guys were done with that and showed it with a focused, directed effort from the start. Purdue is not unbeatable - they've lost to NU and U of N. But you're not beating them with this plan and effort. Next two are at UW and at Illinois. Better be more prepared and ready.

He travels every time he touches the ball ...

And for whatever additional reasons ... the NBA advance scouting community ain't crazy about him ...

NBAdraft.Net does not even project him to go in either of the first two rounds in the upcoming draft ...

Thanks Tony. I really enjoy this style of film room, where you narrate over the video clips.

Exactly 50 years ago today on JAN 19, 1974, ND beat UCLA in SB to snap their 88-game win streak ... just a few weeks earlier, Digger Phelps brought ND into Bloomington to play IU ... we were sitting under ND's basket when they came out to warm up and OMFG you should have seen the legs on Adrian Dantley up close ... they looked like tree trunks ... the pressure on the floor in that last minute was so intense, that one ND's players, Billy Paterno was openly crying as he shot two free throws ... ND beat IU by 3pts ... I was there for the golden age of CBB ... It began in '66 with Lew Alcindor appearing on the cover of SI's CBB preview issue and ended in '79 when Magic bolted for the NBA ...

Great video on how to play defense on him. Also agree we have to block out better. I don't know how many times I've seen our players watching the ball instead of blocking out. Defense is effort & we seem disinterested in it.
