It would be great to hire a coach in his 40s (or early 50s)... in theory, that coach has enough experience building a program but isn't in the Woody situation where he's too old (tired?) to be a generational leader. Beyond the off-the-court stuff, Pitino and Pearl are too old.

Tony: Given the failed hires, hypothetically speaking, what would be the qualities of a good hire?

Great job on analysis. Agree with all your points. Hate this because I love coach Woody but he has to go. Glad it is done with some dignaty.

With the Celtics' ownership group soon changing hands and having already accomplished putting together a fabulous team, along with new NBA Championship trophies on the mantle... Brad Stevens has to be the clear-cut #1 IU Target!! Naturally, there are several other prime candidates, but NONE with the overall winning background, incomparable ability and national cache' Stevens would bring to the program. OPEN the Vault!! Put Cuban on speed-dial... and GET IT DONE!

Mark Deckard / GO IU!!

I just hope that this "situation" is not turning into an administrative mess where the Bd of Trustees or whoever is fighting our professional athletic department. That would be a disaster. Or even worse, Woodson is resisting retirement! What a nightmare. So we alums and fans just hope for the best with no actual information or apparent program direction? And IU just has to hope that nobody misbehaves at the game on Saturday? Wow. (I am now almost as incoherent as some of the podcasts I've tuned into this morning!)

I agree that it's best to get this situation done and dusted before tip-off tomorrow. Fans won't allow a limbo state, and the Illinois game was so ugly, my fear is the next step comes with more than just boos. We need to avoid that.
