Coach Adragna breaks down the good, the bad, and the ugly from Indiana's Sunday tilt with UConn.

“They were tougher.”

Those were Mike Woodson’s words about Indiana’s performance against UConn on Sunday afternoon, and it’d be hard to disagree with him.

UConn owned a vast rebounding advantage and played with an energy that Indiana couldn’t match for much of the contest.

It wasn’t all bad, as Malik Reneau solidified that he’s going to be a force for defenses to handle. However, he’s going to need a lot more help, especially from his guards, than he got against the Huskies.

Missed Opportunities

When you play an opponent the caliber of UConn, you absolutely have to take advantage of the opportunities for easy buckets.

Especially early on, Indiana missed some easy opportunities at opportunities at the basket, which could have helped set a better tone for the Hoosiers against the Huskies.

Mackenzie Mgbako Shortcomings

I don’t want to just absolutely crap on a kid in his fourth collegiate basketball game, but Mackenzie Mgbako has A LOT of work to do in order to be a net positive for this basketball team.

In the videos below, I want you to just focus on Mgbako in the clips. Watch how he’s oftentimes not very fluid in his movements, out of position, and sometimes gives up on the play.

You’ll also notice that almost all of these clips are on the defensive end. This isn’t even factoring in that Mgbako didn’t score from the field on Sunday.

There’s a lot of room for growth, but it has to happen sooner rather than later.

Bad Shots

When you’re trying to pull off an upset, taking good shots is a must.

I found myself scratching my head on quite a few occasions Sunday with Indiana’s shot selection. It felt like sometimes a guy had his mind made up he was going to shoot it long before they ever saw what the defense was giving them.

Bad shots are oftentimes just as bad as a live ball turnover and can result in an easy basket on the other end (as you’ll see happens in one of the clips below).
