Mackenzie Holmes Still Leads Hoosiers In Scoring Despite Limited Minutes
The Hoosiers appear to be trying to limit Mackenzie Holmes’ minutes early on. As she continues to sport a large knee brace, the team is trying to keep her healthy for the stretch run after knee issues limited her production and effectiveness at the end of the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Her minutes are down so far to under 28 after being at nearly 31 in 2022-2023. On Sunday, she played just 19 minutes but still led the team with 17 points.
Three-Point Shooting Struggles For Second Straight Contest
After going just 6-19 from long range in a much closer-than-expected victory over Maine, that particular aspect of the game was not much better on Sunday. Despite the blowout, this stat was still an eyesore as the Hoosiers went just 5-22.
Yarden Garzon, Sydney Parrish, and Sara Scalia are all generally deadly from behind the arc. However, on Sunday they combined to go just 4-14 after being just 5-15 against the Black Bears. While that is unlikely to matter the rest of this month, once the Hoosiers hit Big Ten play for good in January, they will need to knock these down at a higher clip to compete for a second straight conference title.
Can The Hoosiers Look Stronger On The Road In Their Big Ten Opener Next Weekend
While home and neutral sites have been friendly to IU so far, road games have not. While the sample size is limited to just two games, both of those contests have seen arguably the worst performances in at least a couple of seasons. Whether it be the blowout loss to Stanford or squeaking by Maine, neither looked very inspiring.
While Rutgers suffered a blowout loss to Fairfield and sits at just 5-5 so far, the Hoosiers have to be careful. If IU brings the energy they have to Assembly Hall and Florida, they will win easily no matter how well the Scarlet Knights play. However, if the effort from the games against the Cardinal and Black Bears is brought, Indiana will be in for another war.
