In a battle of the Big Ten’s best centers, Nebraska star Alexis Markowski had the upper hand early. However, by the the second half, IU’s All-American big Mackenzie Holmes had Markowski in foul trouble. At that point Holmes was dominant in a decisive third quarter and ended up with 22 points.

Markowski was just behind her at 21 points but got little help from her teammates and spent large chunks of the final 20 minutes riding the bench with four fouls. By the time she returned, the result was decided

Hoosiers Take Shooting Success On The Road

For the first time this season the Hoosiers took their dominant shooting to an opponent’s gym. While shooting overall has been strong, it finally carried over into hostile territory.

The squad cooked from long range as Indiana passed out of the post making 14-23 from downtown. Sydney Parrish got IU off to a hot start from there for the second straight game and made six overall en-route to 20 points. Sara Scalia came on later in the afternoon adding 5 triples with 19 points.

Each time the Cornhuskers made a run, the Cream and Crimson would respond with a big shot and take the crowd out of it. In the end they were 34-56 from the field in the victory going away.

Hoosiers Performance Against First Weekend Postseason Teams Provides Hope For March Madness

For the third time this season the Hoosiers easily beat a team that could be a back end tournament squad. Whether it be Princeton, Tennessee, or now Nebraska, all these sides posses the quality of what the Hoosiers will almost certainly play at home in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Once March Madness actually begins, IU needs this type of performance in order to comfortably get themselves to the second weekend. In the last couple of seasons in this scenario, Indiana was nearly upset two years ago and were actually taken down last season.

Part of that has been the health of Mackenzie Holmes. However, the Cream and Crimson must bring this level of energy to the Round of 32 as they have shown they are capable of so far in 2023-2024, and cruise into the Sweet 16 this time when nailbiters are then expected.

The Hoosiers next game is on Wednesday at 7 pm on BTN+ against a banged up Penn State squad. Indiana will be looking to improve to 14-1 overall and 5-0 in the league.
