[Tutorial] How to Control Your Subscriptions and Notifications in Substack
This video will help you protect your attention and reduce inbox clutter by making sure you only get notifications for content you are interested in.
So often in life, our greatest personal strengths also have the potential to be our greatest weaknesses.
Well, the same is true for Substack.
While our move here has allowed us to expand our content offering in a much more streamlined and organized way, it has also meant some people have become a bit overwhelmed with notifications for content they are not interested in.
So let’s fix that!
First, know that all content is available on the home page at all times. So at any time you can go to assemblycall.com to see all of our latest posts.
Second, you have the ability to control which recurring content series you receive email notifications for when new posts are published. You can also opt into or out of notifications for Chat conversations.
(Note: If you are not logged in, clicking that button will redirect you to the login screen.)
Here is a short tutorial video I recorded that shows you how to specify which series you want to be notified about … and which ones you don’t.
For reference, here is a quick description of each of the recurring content series (or “newsletters” in Substack terms) you can toggle on or off:
The Assembly Call — our main feed for IU men’s basketball content
IU Film Room ($) — Tony Adragna’s weekly column on IU men’s basketball
Coach’s Corner ($) — Coach Tonsoni’s weekly column on IU men’s basketball
Postgame 3-2-1 ($) — our postgame analysis email sent the morning after every men’s basketball game
6-Banner Sunday — our weekly recap of IU men’s basketball news, plus Ari’s Hoosier Roundup
Doing The Work — our coverage of IU women’s basketball, including the podcast by Jeff and Kathy and articles by Ari
IU Sports by Ari — Ari’s regular column providing coverage of men’s soccer, baseball, and more.
Note #1: The $ sign denotes content series that are for our premium subscribers. Free subscribers are often sent a “teaser” email for these posts. We respect your time and attention, so we only send a teaser if it adds standalone value whether your become a paid subscriber or not.
Note #2: All subscribers are added to the men’s basketball content and 6-Banner Sunday news roundup by default. You have to opt into Doing The Work and IU Sports by Ari to add those notifications to your mix.

And don’t worry — you can make changes at any time. So if you change your mind later, just visit that page and edit your settings.
