Emergency Pod: Oumar Ballo and Myles Rice are Hoosiers
In our first emergency pod this offseason, Jerod is joined by Tony Adragna, Rick Bozich, and Alex Bozich to break down the commitments of Oumar Ballo and Myles Rice, and how it may fit together.
On Tuesday afternoon, Indiana got a commitment from former Arizona center Oumar Ballo -- ranked by 247Sports as the #1 overall transfer portal prospect. Ballo joins Myles Rice and Bryson Tucker in a recruiting class that is giving Indiana fans legitimate hope of a bounce-back season in 2024-25.
In this emergency pod, Jerod Morris is joined by Tony Adragna of IU Film Room, Rick Bozich of WDRB in Louisville, and Alex Bozich of Inside the Hall to break down the Ballo and Rice commitments.
Among the topics discussed:
• Ballo's strengths and weaknesses
• How Ballo fits alongside Malik Reneau both offensively and defensively
• Why concerns about the two-big lineup are legitimate, but a few reasons why they may be a bit overblown in this case
• The strengths and weaknesses that Rice brings to the table
• The impact of improved guard play like what Rice projects to bring
• What else Indiana needs to look for as it continues to shop in the portal
• The impact of NIL on these commitments and the changing landscape of college hoops
And much more.

I saw an article claiming we spent $1.2 million for Ballo. It doesn’t bother me and I hope it doesn’t bother anyone on the team making a lot less. I wonder how that compares with other top MBB players and also top FB players here and elsewhere. I also wonder how his salary happened to get made public, and whether this level of NIL is sustainable, assuming it’s also seriously used for WBB and soccer and??
